Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

Saturday 10/01 - Flew south to Paseo Del Norte before climbing to head NW to Corrales. Dropped low to make a pass over the Rio Grande then climbed again to move west of the river.. Dropped north of 7-Bar to turn south again, across Cottonwood Mall, Costco, and finally land off Eagle Ranch Rd near the old Hobby Lobby location.

Sunday 10/02 - Much more of a box today, flew south beyond Paseo Del Norte before climbing to return north, just west of the Park. Dropped to head south, missing the south RV parking and baseball fields. Ended up behind the Ford dealer off Montano with prior crews to help. We were last to pack and leave but found one forgotten young crew member we had to reunite with her mom before leaving.

Monday 10/03 - No flights

Tuesday 10/04 - Sprinkles when we arrived, cleared for the flight. Went south initially but only partway to Alameda before climbing to make a slow return north to mid-field. Dropped to head south, clipping an invisible strand of barbed wire when we tried to land in the south RV parking. Continued south on the east side of the arroyo, passing Rudi packing up on the west side. We managed enough right shift to make the center of Vista Del Norte Park along Osuna Rd. Lots of balloons and crews to help walk close to the edge for deflation.

Wednesday 10/05 - No flights

Thursday 10/06 - Had somewhat of an E-W box today, at least some did. We initially headed slowly SE to stay clear of the reservation. Eventually turned east and crossed I-25 and turned N-E across the old airport property. As we headed for Louisiana Blvd I watched two balloons head north and land on the last two roads before the reservation. When I got there we continued N-E to Venice Ave for landing. After pack-up we caught another balloon coming in from the north! Variable winds!.

Friday 10/07 - Initially looked like the box would carry us west but we got some east shift when we launched. Went south of Fiesta Park then climbed to run up the east side, eventually turning N-NW into the reservation. Dropped and reversed track S-SE almost to Alameda before climbing to head N-W to the propane refueling area. The field was now open for landing south of the targets and we ended up at J9. The crew had moved to the edge of our site to watch the flight and had to chase all the way to the other end of the field :-)

Saturday 10/08 - No flights

Sunday 10/09 - Some flew, we had packed for travel before the wind speed had dropped.
