The weekend forecast looked like garbage, with rain every day. You can't trust the weather forecasts!

The winds Friday afternoon were 12kt gust 22 and there were thunderstorms off to the west. The thunderstorms passed west of us over the lake, and the winds dropped off to zero just in time to get a flight in. The trick is to stay out of the woods when you have such a short window.

The entire pack floated around the field area, tending toward the driving range to the east. Some balloons made short flights, several others made it into the golf course and walked the balloons to the edge for deflations. We ran east, parallel to Cape Cod Rd and finally landed just beyond the golf course in a large yard with two other balloons.

Saturday morning was a low overcast, and started raining about the time we would have been launching if it hadn't been canceled. Saturday afternoon had some clouds in the area that dissipated later, and the winds were less than Friday evening. All late afternoon the pi-bals went UP!

When we took off it was an even tighter cluster playing bumper cars. We passed Beth Hamilton several times. Several balloons made splash and dashes in the Townhouse ponds. We eventually ended up west of the field moving east toward our original launch site. Since the direction was good, toward the driving range and Townhouses across Cape Cod Rd, we continued past the crew that were still where we left them.

Out over the driving range we could hear kids on a mound near the Townhouses calling for us to come down there. From 1.0 on the GPS we dropped to 0.0 but kept slowly creeping east. While I was happy to simply get clear of the powerlines, our descent path took us right to the kids on the mound and we stopped on the side of that hill until the crew could walk us back to the edge of the driveway for deflation. I could have landed next to the driveway, but continuing right to the kids was much more fun.
