The forecast was never a clear cut positive, but at 4:30 AM it didn't look bad so we loaded up for the 2 hour drive from MA. The thermometer indicated 3degrees F on the way down! Pibal showed reasonable winds to the south so we launched. Peak speed at altitude was about 18mph, but close to the trees it was much slower and close to the ground it was calm. Had a nice flight, passing over Carlos as he landed and deflated in a parking lot. Continued across Broad Brook Reservoir which just looked like another field with its snow covered ice. Dropping as we crossed Church St (68), we landed adjacent to a cul-de-sac. Matt was there to help at landing and the crew showed up before the balloon stopped swaying. Walked the balloon down to the cul-de-sac for deflation. |
