Map of the flight

This was my first time at the Glens Falls balloon rally. We were invited by Lark and Amy to be their crew. It's not often that I act as crew on a balloon so it's good practice to remind you what the crew goes through.

We arrived on Friday afternoon. While it was a little breezy during the afternoon, the winds were calming down toward launch time. The ground direction was not good for long flights because it was headed NNW toward Lake George, but would allow for reasonable flights before we would need to land.

As it turned out we (the balloons that launched) found if you climbed high you would turn WSW into open areas. Our only problem as we climbed 5000 feet was the lapse rate and the fact we had not taken heavy jackets because the ground temperature had been pleasant.

We ended the flight as much for the chattering teeth as the approaching sunset. The descent was started near a major road to allow the chase vehicle easy access to the general landing area. We settled into the middle of a stubble field with easy access from the adjacent road and soon had a lot of local help walking up.

Amy gave the local kids tether rides before we deflated and packed up.
